AI will teach to stretch the crystals to create new processors

An international team of scientists from MIT, which includes engineers from Singapore and Russia, proposedusing artificial intelligence to create new characteristics of existing materials. According to the data obtained, “stretching” of semiconductors or materials with a crystalline structure can provide a change in their key characteristics.

Materials with new characteristics can be used in various fields, including the creation of computing systems. The difficulty is associated with the definition of “effort”, which artificial intelligence should do. It is noted that similar technologies were used with silicon processors, while the structure change by 1% led to an increase in performance by 50%.


The technology proposed by engineers involves the use of neural networks that determine the strength and direction of the impact to improve the characteristics of materials. The participation of a person conducting complex calculations is not required.
