MediaTek predicted a decline in income by 20% in the first quarter of this year

Taiwanese electronics maker MediaTek expects a strong drop in revenue in the first quarter of this year – up to 20%. Head of the company Rick Tsai named several reasons why things are getting worse.

The difficult situation is mostly associated with a general decline in the growth of the smartphone market. It, in turn, is caused by the transition of the industry to smartphones with 5G support – until they become massive, a serious sales spurt will not happen, MediaTek believes the CEO.

The company is already developing chips with 5G – the modem will appear before the summer, and the line of processors with support for networks of the fifth generation should be released before the end of the year. Also MediaTek is engaged in chips with support for Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax).

The company’s consolidated revenue last year was $ 7.74 billion with a net profit of $ 676 million.
