On December 11, Roskomnadzor fined Google 500 thousand rubles for the fact that the company did not connect to the registry of sites banned in Russia. Google representatives in court did not admit their guilt.

The law on fines for search engines for links to prohibited sites and VPN services came into force on November 1, 2017. In June 2018, Vladimir Putin signed a law on fines for non-compliance with the law. Google has become the first search engine, fined under the new law.
